As a mother, step-mother, adoptive parent, and grandparent, I know that life can be wonderful and messy.

My passion for helping couples navigate life’s ups and down while keeping what is most important intact – their marriage and family, is what brought me here. If you are looking for Denver Couples Therapy, or would like to find a therapist for marital counseling in Longmont, I’m glad you’re here.

My Approach

I practice Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and I help individuals who struggle to heal parts of their lives.  I provide a very comfortable atmosphere where you can explore and understand where and why you are stuck. Together, we progress toward the changes and clarity you need in your life.

Loving bonds are the most important healing ingredient in our lives. I’ve experienced first hand how loving, connected relationships can smooth even the toughest transition. The power that practicing Emotionally Focused Therapy has had in my own life has been incredible. I’ve been hard at work to create my own healthy bonds and keep them strong in all of the relationships that I hold dear. I’ve been through the pain of divorce, and I’ve navigated bringing together two families and creating a home where 6 children, three of whom are adoptive, thrive in a loving environment. I have life experience under my belt that has given me the empathy and perspective to really start where you are.

I offer Longmont and Denver Couples Therapy and Individual Counseling to address:

  • Communication
  • Trust
  • Premarital and Marriage Preparation
  • Conflict and Closeness
  • Parenting: Blending families, keeping your bond strong through parenting difficulties, navigating divorce
  • Adoptive issues – strengthening your marriage through transition and creating strong, loving bonds with your children
  • Self-Esteem – Recovering what was lost, building what should have been
  • Perfectionism – How it manifests in relationships or in personal arenas, such as disordered eating
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

Background

I’ve always wanted to be a therapist, even before I knew what it was called. I just knew I wanted to be the one to help people when they had problems or were sad. I put the dream on hold for 20 years while I raised my children, and then returned to school and got my master’s degree Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado after earning my bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. I am completing my advanced postgraduate training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I have cherished my extensive experience working with women who have endured more than most; survivors of violence, childhood trauma, and disordered eating. I also have experience working with children in play therapy. All of this experience adds to my work in Denver Couples Therapy, repairing relationships with couples and individuals.

It’s hard to capture the essence of who I am on a web page. My passion right now is my family, especially my children and grandchildren. I do not see the grandbabies nearly enough because they live 2000 miles away in another country! I really enjoy reading books on growth and insight. My home is my current creative outlet thanks to DIY and Pinterest, and I like to cook when I have time. And chocolate. I love chocolate. Good chocolate. I’m a bit of a chocolate snob…
