“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you’ve imagined.”

Henry David Thoreau

My work with couples and individuals aims to honor where you are, where you have been, and create openings for where you want to go with your life and relationship.

Are you living the life of your dreams? Do you even know what your dream life would look like? One thing most of us long for is emotional connection. It may have been so long since we have had it, that we can hardly remember what it feels like. But when it is absent, we feel alone, angry, and often despairing that there is no hope of repairing broken relationships. There is hope. There is the possibility that you and your partner can have the relationship you long ago dreamed of. I help my clients move from emotional isolation and help them to build relationships where they experience, trust, connection, joy, and ease.

I’m Karen, and I provide Denver Couples Counseling and Individual Counseling.  I know the life-changing power that connection can bring and so it is my great pleasure to facilitate that with couples.  I enjoy helping people develop their effectiveness, identify their dreams for themselves and their relationships, and then develop a plan to fulfill those dreams and goals. My work with couples and individuals aims to honor where you are, where you have been, and create openings for where you want to go with your life and relationship.

I’ve also been my own journey through painful relationships, losses, and the experience of being a stepparent, a parent, a wife, daughter, and sister, (and even former kindergarten teacher). These have provided me greater ability to facilitate healing and and insight.

Moving to Colorado fulfilled a lifelong dream to live in the mountains, in a place that spoke to my soul. Some people have asked me how I found the courage to make such a big change, and I have learned that one cannot wait to find courage to make a change. The courage comes in the doing. That is something I think helps me in my work with clients, as they look to make positive changes in their lives.

My Approach

I practice Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, and I find it especially fulfilling to help people heal in the presence of their most important person, and in turn, to help them heal their relationship. I also work well with people who have spent a long time trying to discover their voice, heal from troubling experiences, and reclaim their path to become whole. We can work on helping you through crises, or help you have a more fulfilling relationship and life.  I offer a lot of support and empathy, but also help them develop a practical plan to get through things.

My spontaneity, and my humor, are very present in the room, and my clients have told me that they feel relaxed and safe with me. I can be quite silly to be honest! I love making a comfortable connection with clients, especially those who may be feeling very alone.  I see peoples’ strengths and flaws, their humanity, and adore them for it.

I often see couples focusing all of their energy and affection on their children, but not able to address the issues or conflict in their relationship.  I like to work with couples to find balance in creating a space for their relationship while at the same time, helping them to see that strengthening their own bond is the greatest gift they can give their children.

I offer Denver Couples Counseling and Individual Counseling to address:

Some Background

I’m a mom who adores my grown children and am also enjoying the growing independence that this new stage of life brings us. I love the wilderness… I think I was a tree in a former life and am most at home in the woods. I am thrilled to live by the mountains and my favorite hikes always go up to the top of something. I am excited to learn new things, including skiing this winter. I love to write, stories, memoirs, and poetry. And I love to read. I am a fair weather runner because it clears my head and gives me energy. I have run a few half-marathons and am looking forward to trying some races in Colorado. I love to ride horses in the mountains wearing a cowboy hat.
